Reading objects, Santa & Cole

Having a good story and telling it well requires a combination of many ingredients: reading, researching, selecting, sorting, simplifying, creating and shaping information. Grounded on a humanistic approach and on cultural engagement, at Santa & Cole every object or experience has a story behind it; and every story deserves to be told. I had the opportunity to help identify, tell and disseminate those stories through the various formats and channels available today. I was also involved in developing key brand messaging and ensuring narrative consistency, style and tone, as well as content quality and originality.

By integrating culture, strategy, narrative and creativity, we were able to position the Santa & Cole brand where it belongs, in keeping with its standing, and also to nurture an engaged community.

Santa & Cole was founded in 1985 by Nina Masó, Javier Nieto Santa and Gabriel Ordeig Cole. The 1980s was a turbulent decade in Spain, in which everything seemed possible in the aftermath of the dictatorship. The early years, creating unique lamps for some of the legendary bars of Barcelona's nightlife, soon led to commissions for lighting the homes of the people who frequented those haunts. Bucking the trend of the time, which was for cold-touch halogen lamps emitting bluish light, Santa & Cole advocated the use of natural materials, such as wood, stitched cardboard or ribbons, either by re-editing existing designs or by developing new ones. It was a leap from technological coldness to human warmth.
