Narrative simplicity, weekend house kids

Brand Strategist, Storytelling, Content Strategist

From Mister Rainbow, the boot that wants to be a dog’, to ‘the tiger that is a champion reader’. Through endearing stories and loveable characters, we developed and disseminated the narrative message of the children's brand Weekend House Kids. A special way of life built on fantasy, creativity and popular Mediterranean culture. This project involved garnering knowledge of the sustainable children's fashion industry, as well as every aspect of the brand. I also simplified and adapted the messages concerning more complex topics such as the brand's sustainable production process. I drew on the works of authors Bruno Munari, Yanagi Sōetsu and Ernst Friedrich Schumacher, among others, to build the narrative approach we were looking for.

Bio Description

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL. We are a sustainable kids brand that manufactures locally in Spain, only what we sell.

About

Weekend House Kids is the natural environment that surrounds its founders Irina and Cristina: their children, dogs, neighbours, gardens, yards and kitchens; the beauty they find in the spontaneous moments they share with family and friends, at weekends and on vacations. The quest for the essential, popular wisdom and intuition. This is a brand that prioritises comfort and awareness of the planet we live in.

Weekend House Kids was launched in 2018 in Mataró, a seaside town north of Barcelona, by two sisters who decided to create a children's brand with a Mediterranean accent. Our enthusiasm and commitment today is as strong as on day one, as we create stories to tell, and work closely with expert craftspeople located 3 km from our headquarters. All our garments are designed and sketched by hand, free of constraints, by the creative director and co-founder of Weekend House Kids; and conscientiously made using natural materials and all the time that is needed. We are a small family. At Weekend House Kids, everything grows with love.

AW22 I found a book campaign – I found a book, a book hidden away at the end of a shelf in my village library. Its pages revealed hundreds of stories of an alternate reality. From the tale of the boot that wants to be a dog, to the octopus who wears booties or even the champion reader who happens to be a tiger. Behind every story, behind every book there is a world of dreams. This is a collection in tribute to the stories that books tell. Because we like to touch and feel the paper, because we love the art and the words that let our imagination fly.

SS22 Everything grows with love – Everything gets better when there’s love around. A warm good morning when you open your eyes, or just a gentle few words as you wake up. Tone and words can change the day of those who receive them, like a beautiful melody, or a bird singing sweetly at first light. That’s why our collection is an ode to the beauty of words. They bring characters like Mr Rainbow to life, brightening up our day with his smile. Or the blue dog who walks along happily by the sea, where little boats float peacefully in the distance. And the vain duck who lazes all day watching his own reflection, blushing at the sight of himself as he offers a quack quack to the cat, who replies with a meow meow. It’s a collection that tells us happy stories, stories that share kindness and the sweetest and most spontaneous love.

AW21 Surrealism – Welcome to the surrealist's house, the perfect place to let your imagination fly. Look around you because you have lots of new friends waiting for you. In the kitchen, Mr. Worm, the most well-mannered worm of them all, with his beret says hello from his house, the apple. We peek outside the window and in the garden, we see the dear blue horse, the most elegant and radiant horse you have ever seen. We look up and see that the chilly sun is wearing a woolly hat. But what do we see in the distance? We take our binoculars and we see that the spotted cat is coming closer and is as happy as ever. We say goodbye to Mrs. Pear, who today is wearing brown trousers. Oh No! She’s forgotten her shoes, she goes back inside and she chooses the prettiest pair of shoes from her wardrobe, how elegant and well dressed is Mrs. Pear? the best-dressed pear in all the pear trees.
